He has made over 27 recordings of new music and has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan.
In addition to his book Contemporary Urban Percussion, Stephen has written educational articles that have appeared in Modern Drummer and Downbeat magazines, the Vic Firth Education site, and was a writer and Associate Editor for Net4Music (1999-2001)

For the last ten years, he has been using rhythms to teach reading, writing, and arithmetic to intellectually and physically challenged children, teens, and adults. He is considered a master trainer and facilitator of The Rhythmic Arts Project (TRAP) protocol, and continues this work through his company Special Needs Music.
